Im zweiten Kapitel des Buches geht es um proximate und ultimate Ursachen des Vogelgesangs, um die Entwicklung der Gesangsfähigkeiten (auch der Vögel, die von Hand aufgezogen - unter "Laborbedingungen" - nie den elterlichen Gesang hörten / diesen vom Tonband hörten), um unterschiedliche Dialekte, "the avian song control system", das Hormon Östrogen im Zshg. mit Gesangslernen
(Zitat S. 34f: "Although we usually think of estrogen as a female hormone (because it is produced by the ovaries), cells in male bird brains produce estrogen on their own for transport to other cells. There, this self-manufactured environmental signal activates the development of specific neural pathways found in the male's brain. Es geht weiter darum, wie das Gesangszentrum arbeitet bei Papageien / Kolibri / Singvögel der Unterordnung Oscines mit den unterschiedlichen Diagrammen der Gehirne (nach dem derzeitigen Wissenstand).
(Für Hein: S. 107: "neurons and their operation: This diagramm illustrates the structure of an generalized neuron with its dendrites, cell body, axon and synapses. Electrical activity ........." usw...... sind wahrscheinlich alles Dinge, die du kennst, sind dort für mich aber gut erklärt werden - um dazu zu lernen.)
Ich fand jedes der 14 Kapitel lesenswert - aber das Zusammenfassen übersteigt mein Zeitbudget - das Lesen war schon sehr zeitaufwändig, aber vlt. hab ich ja den einen oder anderen neugierig gemacht!
